-ACI Telecom was founded in May of 1993 by Cam Walters of Greenville, SC. Cam had been the regional manager at BTI (Raleigh NC) for the upstate. BTI at that time was in the early stages of rolling out a successful dealer program after maintaining a direct sales force since 1984. "I could not resist the opportunity to run my own business, and get out of the corporate structure. Some of my friends in the industry and at BTI thought I was crazy to be leaving the opportunity I had at BTI, but I never looked back."

ACI Telecom was an exclusive dealer of BTI until 1996, when Access Point was formed in Cary, NC. In 1998 ACI signed on with New South Communications, a CLEC headquartered in Greenville SC. Nuvox Communications at this time became another CLEC that ACI Telecom began to represent. Other service providers over the years at ACI Telecom, include wireless services from Verizon, and solid relationships with various interconnect and network integration service providers
